The Willits Center for the Arts presents "The July Show"

Known among artists as BOW or the Best of Willits, artists selected for the show have been asked to exhibit what they think is their best work.

We hope to make the “July Show” an annual event to showcase Willits artists in conjunction with Frontier Days and as a celebration of Art and Democracy. Yes, artists are Americans too and the visual expressions they present us with, either in visual arts or dance, music or theatre, are the expressions our society communicates with and displays to the rest of the world.

Here in Willits we have a wealth of artists producing quality work in many different media. Twenty-seven select artists from Willits have been asked to present creations they consider their best work. This is most unusual for a gallery show since most exhibits display work from items they select to be in the show. Artists in this case will have to dig deep within to answer many questions such as, “what makes this my best or “what was the meaning of this at the time it was created and what does it symbolize to me now?” These questions would be very difficult for even the most accomplished artist to answer. The range of art and questions items will pose should make for a very interesting show.

The Best of Willits includes these artists: Anaya Nancy Adair, Walt Ayers, Don Bear, Chris Beards, Jennie Beckner, Bonnie Belt, Judi Berdis, Steve Eberhard, Ron Greystar, Elaine Hamby, Bob Kirkpatrick, Judy Chance Hope, Sheri Howe, Doug Kell, Nancy McHone, Stacey Patton, Jim Shorba, Ree Slocum, Sheryl Smith, Eva Strauss-Rosen, Donna Stropes, Cynda Valle, Bobbie Yokum, and Tom Zephyrs.

Please join us for a reception for the artists, July 3rd, 2009 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
