My most recent figurative work displays a deepening awareness of the space surrounding, encompassing and embracing the figure. It also incorporates the contrast and cooperation of a sense of realism (presented by left-brain thinking) and abstraction (offered by the intuitive musings of the right-brain hemisphere). By including as far-reaching a perception as I am able, the work endeavors to symbolize the quantum field, Tao, Qi, or however one may label the "life force", and the model, artist and paint palette combining with it.

In other words, through working directly with the live model I am attempting not just an accurate visual rendering but rather an imprint of the entire studio experience including mood, music and messages from my muse. The painting then becomes a color representation of that experience.

But . . . probably most importantly to me . . . combining realist and abstract elements in a single painting allows me to play in a bigger field.
